KAJANG: Muslim Chamber of Commerce and Industry Malaysiasecretary-general Abd Jalil Nasir, 49, was charged in a magistrate's court here with six counts of molesting an 18-year-old college student since 2010.
He claimed trial to the charges before Magistrate Aina Azahra Ariffin on Wednesday.
Abd Jalil who is also a businessman, was accused of outraging the modesty of the girl at a hotel in Jalan Mendaling here at about 10pm on August, 2010.
He also faces five other similar charges to molesting the same girl between May 2011 and September, this year.
Three of the charges were allegedly committed at the same hotel while the other two charges were said to have been committed at his house in Kampung Sungai Kantan here.
Abd Jalil was charged under Section 354 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum of 10 years jail with whipping or a fine if convicted.
Deputy Public Prosecutor R. Siamalah offered bail at RM8,000 in one surety each charge.
Counsel P. Gunalan who acted for Abd Jalil, said that he hoped that the bail would be reduced to RM3,000 each charge as the chances of his client absconding was very low due to his position in the chamber.
The Magistrate later granted bail at RM7,500 in one surety for each of the charges and set Nov 19 for mention.thestar.
