Student crimes in Selangor on the rise

SHAH ALAM: Students’ involvement in crime in Selangor is on the rise and the state police chief wants a more effective approach to tackle the problem.
Police have, to date, arrested 461 students involved in 257 cases compared with 448 students detained in the 295 cases reported last year, said Selangor police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Tun Hisan Tun Hamzah.
“Most of the cases were for theft and other minor offences,” he said after closing the state-level secondary school crime prevention club seminar at the state police headquarters here yesterday.
In his speech, DCP Tun Hisan said it was important for both teachers and students to know the law; so that they could take preventive measures.
The seminar was organised by the Malaysia Crime Prevention Foundation (MCPF) Selangor chapter together with the state police.
Also present was MCPF Selangor secretary Datuk Muhammad Fuad Talib.
